Ubisoft comments on Splinter Cell: Conviction status

Ubisoft has made a statement to CVG about the current developmental status of Splinter Cell: Conviction, as discontent grew among the franchise's large fanbase.
Rumours that the game was in a right state and that it was being pushed back until late 2009 had been re-ignited by its no-show at the recent UbiDays event in Paris.
An Ubisoft spokesperson was cornered by CVG and asked a number of probing questions. This is what he had to say.
"In reference to speculative stories that have appeared recently, in January of 2008 we announced that the game would be released in the fiscal year of 08/09.
"At this point in time we are not ready to be more specific than that. We will begin to communicate more once we feel the time is right for us and our fans."
"Splinter Cell: Conviction is still in development," the spokesperson added.
The game is apparently now back on the drawing board at Ubisoft Montreal, with the imminent release of Metal Gear Solid 4 and the alleged similaries between Assassin's Creed and Conviction being blamed for the delay (by the gaming community).
